Darb 1718 is an Egyptian contemporary arts and culture centre right in the middle of Old Cairo’s Fustat area and next to the monumental Hanging Church and Amr Ibn Al Aas Mosque. The centre strives to promote the Egyptian culture to the local and international art scenes.
It also aims at:
- Presenting local and international contemporary art
- Maintaining a database of artists and art archives in Egypt and the MENA region
- Facilitating educational programs and initiatives through film screenings, workshops, projects, etc.
- Engaging the Fustat local community in community service and outreach programs
The art gallery encourages new and original work that reflects on cross cultural exchanges and grants artistic merit to its creators.
They support the environment cause and have previously hosted an exhibition by the artist Nanice Labib for her recycled art work.
